Spring 2015 Iran Arbabi Scholarship

At ICEC’s 25th Anniversary Gala we announced the creation of the Iran Arbabi Scholarship Program. Named and endowed in honor of the founder of ICEC, this scholarship program has been created to encourage and assist students in their post-secondary education. CSA Meeting

Dear Parents,

Community & School Association (CSA)- “ Anjoman”- of Iran Cultural & Educational Center invites you to join them for their first meeting of the year on Saturday October 4, 2014 from 9:45 A.M. to 10:45 A.M. at school’s cafeteria.

The agenda for this meeting is as follows:

1. Welcome words by Ms. Arbabi Director of the ICEC

2. Review of CSA’s mission and review of last year’s activities

3. Financial report for last year

4. Future goals & plans

5. Overview of CSA’s committees & committee sign ups

6. New officers election

Please attend this meeting. Your involvement and help in Community & School Association, “Anjoman”, will enhance the quality of the cultural activities planned for our Children.

YIM 2014-2015

To All ICEC Students Interested in Performing with YIM this School Year:

The Young Iranian Musicians (YIM) Group is about to start its activities for this school year. In order to select the YIM members and their performance assignments during this year’s Nowruz Celebration Program, there will be an audition session on Saturday, September 20th, 2:00-4:00pm, at the Partovi Family Residence, 10301 Oaklyn Drive, Potomac, MD 20854.

All registered ICEC students wishing to perform with the YIM (new prospects as well as returning members, irrespective of whether they have signed up for YIM already) are required to participate in the audition session (there will only be one). Whether new or returning, all candidates are required to contact the YIM Director, Yosi Talaminaei ( yostala@gmail.com ), and confirm their attendance as soon as possible.

All candidates are also expected to bring their own instrument (piano/keyboard will be provided), and the notes to a recently learned/performed piece that would best reflect their current skills and abilities. They are also encouraged to bring along the sheet music for any Iranian pieces in their repertoire that they would consider suitable for YIM performance.

Welcome Back 2014-2015 School Year

Dear Students,

As we prepare to begin a new school year, on behalf of the ICEC administration, the instructional staff, and myself, I would like to welcome you and wish you a very successful and rewarding academic year. We are excited to see so many of you who will be returning this year and to have the opportunity to greet and to know many new students who will be joining us for the first time. As always, our goal is to help you make the most of the instructional time by having an in-depth understanding of the Iranian cultural heritage and by gaining proficiency in the language in an engaging and learner-centered environment. The fact that you are spending part of your Saturdays participating in our classes is a reflection of your commitment to achieving this goal. Your enthusiasm and love of learning are crucial in preserving our cultural heritage and language.

As part of our ongoing efforts to achieve our common goal more effectively, we have made some changes to the way we will be communicating with you this year. Through the enhanced ICEC website, you will soon be able to communicate with your instructors and access lessons, homework assignments and projects online. Your instructors will provide you with more information in the weeks to come. We will also make every effort to differentiate the instruction based on proficiency levels to maximize learning. As part of this effort, the posted weekly “Can-Do” statements and ongoing formative assessments will allow you to better measure your own progress throughout the year. As the year goes on, we will review, reflect and readjust the instructional strategies to better meet your needs.

Looking forward to an exceptionally fulfilling academic year.

Farewell to Dance Troupe Instructors

ICEC former students, Anahid Meysami, Ariana Feizi, and Neda Movahed, who were the dance troupe instructors from 2010-2014, graduated from the University of Maryland in May. As they leave us to pursue their academic and professional dreams, we would like to congratulate them for their accomplishments and wish them a bright future and great success. They will always be with us as exemplary role models.
